Cauliflower tabbouleh

With temperatures in London soaring into the 30s at the moment, it’s so hard to know what to eat. You need something nourishing, but you’d also like something light, and you don’t want to spend ages in the kitchen preparing it (we’ve got to get out and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, right?).

So I’ve taken a little inspiration from the Middle East with this dish, after all who better to turn to than the people who are constantly blessed with these kind of temperatures! Tabbouleh is a super healthy and delicious vegan salad, traditionally made with parsley, mint, bulgur wheat, tomatoes and various spices. But I’ve put bulgar on the bench and substituted it in for cauliflower for a seriously light and gluten free salad.  Continue reading

Four ingredient carrot cake balls

Mr H and I are having building work done at the moment, and although we are so excited for the end result, the last few weeks have certainly been a challenge. We’ve fought (and lost) many battles against dust, we’ve had to wash our dishes in the bathroom sink (gross) and our lounge currently looks like a jumble sale threw up on it. The other day we had a powercut. Mr H tried to fix it by swearing at the fuse box, but this didn’t seem to work. Magically the builders fixed it within five minutes the next day (they have superpowers I swear) but I’m now taking matters into my own hands just in case it happens again. Continue reading

Throw away the ‘smack’ bars – my hunger-busting apple pie granola bars

The scene is set – it’s 11am in a busy office, you’re trying to press on with your to do list, but your concentration is waning and your colleagues are not enjoying the awkward soundtrack provided by your rumbling tummy.
You just need a quick fix. Anything will do. One of said colleagues offers you a Nutrigrain or a Special K bar. That’s healthy right? You readily accept and scuttle back to your desk.

THE BEST marinated kale salad

I said a BOOM BOOM BOOM, can you hear me say kale…KALE! We’re SO excited to share the yummiest, scrummiest, tastiest marinated kale salad. We literally want to eat it every single day.

Kale is well touted as a superfood, but it’s not always the easiest thing to eat. It can have a bit of a bitter taste on its own, but with the help of a sprinkling of ingredients it tastes divine and it is oh so good for you. Continue reading

Easy peasy four ingredient energy balls

When I started off on my healthy eating journey I was very scared. How would I survive? What would I eat for snacks? I scoured the supermarkets, literally putting my money where my mouth was and spent a fortune on healthy energy bars. It didn’t take long for me to realise I was racking up the big bucks, so instead I started racking our brains as to how I could recreate my fave snacks in the comfort of my own home. After a little bit of experimenting I had the answer. Now I’m bringing you the easiest, yummiest energy balls you could ever wish to taste! And they only have FOUR ingredients! None of this scouring health food shops for oddly-named seeds and powders, your local supermarket should have all of the ingredients (and if not, well aisle be damned. Sorry.) Continue reading

Dates – why we love them

Brought to you by Mrs H

When I was getting married, my friends thought it would be funny to ask Mr H lots of questions and video his answers. If I didn’t guess the correct answer, I had to drink a shot (sadly of alcohol and not wheatgrass). Some of them were fairly easy; he knew my favourite colour and my favourite movie (I’m keeping this PG) and I guessed them right also.

Cue my darling bridesmaids asking him ‘what would be her perfect date?’. He said…a walk along the beach and a healthy home cooked meal. I said…medjool. Yeah that’s right, my perfect date is sticky, sweet and ever so delicious.
