Creamy chocolate quinoa porridge

Porridge, quinoa and cacao have to be three of my favourite things. So when the lovely people at Quinola sent us some of their new quinoa flakes to try, there was no doubt in my mind what I was going to make with them. Not only do I love the taste of quinoa, but it’s high in protein and will keep you full for hours, so it’s a fabulous alternative to oats if you’re looking to spice up your brekkie a little. Plus, almond milk is packed with good fats and cacao is choc-full (pun intended) of antioxidants, so all in all whilst it may look indulgent it’s a wonderfully healthy start to the day! Pimp up your porridge – spiced apple

Porridge is just the perfect breakfast – it’s so easy and quick to make, great if you’re on a budget, AND it’s super filling and so delicious. I’m totally obsessed with it at the moment – it’s so comforting and nourishing, and a real energy booster.

Either way, there’s some very negative connotations around the stuff, but I’m happy to tell you that you CAN have your cake (well, cookie dough) and eat it. My raw cookie dough bites are made of only four ingredients, are super easy to make and are incredibly delicious. And GUILT FREE!  Continue reading

Half-baked banana balls

Half-baked, nutty and bananas. If you are what you eat, then Mr D and Mr H would probably say we’ve been overdoing it a little on these. And they would probably be right!

These beauties are the perfect snack – packed with slow-release energy, good fats and tonnes of vitamins and minerals, they are so easy to pop into your lunch box and take to work for a teatime pick-me-up. They are also so easy to pop into your mouth, which is where most of ours seem to end up.

Throw away the ‘smack’ bars – my hunger-busting apple pie granola bars

The scene is set – it’s 11am in a busy office, you’re trying to press on with your to do list, but your concentration is waning and your colleagues are not enjoying the awkward soundtrack provided by your rumbling tummy.
You just need a quick fix. Anything will do. One of said colleagues offers you a Nutrigrain or a Special K bar. That’s healthy right? You readily accept and scuttle back to your desk.
