Six ingredient no-bake chocolate fudge covered raisin flapjacks

The day I created this recipe, it was one of those rare super hot days which don’t come around all too often in London. I’d been brainstorming about chocolate fudge covered raisin flapjacks and was really happy with my flapjack mixture (I tested it lots) but I just couldn’t face going anywhere near the oven to bake it. It was just too hot. So I made a couple of tweaks and the result was these insane no-bake chocolate fudge covered raisin flapjacks.

Gooey double chocolate peanut butter cookies

When Mr H and I went to New York a couple of months ago we had a huge list of things (mainly food related) that we wanted to pack in to our five day visit. My list included things like The Butcher’s Daughter  and Hu Kitchen and his included such culinary gems as Carnegie Deli and Levain Bakery. Now I know as well as the next woman that the secrets of a happy marriage are compromise and a well fed husband, plus here at D&H we believe in active avoidance (so whilst I might know that a piece of chocolate cake might make me feel rubbish tomorrow, I’ll have a couple of bites if I fancy it and not give myself a guilt trip for doing so), so I was happy to indulge him, and indeed as it turns out, myself. Banana, blueberry & peanut butter breakfast muffins

Breakfast on the go can be a bit of a struggle at the best of times, even more so if you’re trying to eat healthily while you’re at it. I’ve just about lost count of the number of times I’ve been running out the door and realised I haven’t managed to eat anything yet, which is why I always try to have something on hand which is breakfasty (ie energy boosting and not too sugary) as well as portable (so there goes porridge and chia pudding). Slow cooker sweet potato chocolate fudge cake with chocolate frosting

Baking a cake for someone is just about one of the most fulfilling things you can do in my opinion. Home-baked cakes just taste so much better, I guess because they are made with love instead of additives! I first made this cake for the original Mrs H, who I affectionately refer to as my smother-in-law. She is so loving and kind (and is probably the biggest chocoholic I know after Mr H) so it seemed only right to debut this recipe on her birthday!

Triple chocolate raw frosted brownies

Sometimes when I speak to people about how I’ve changed my diet they become very concerned, and ask me how I can possibly survive without chocolate or comfort food. I like it when this happens, as it gives me a chance to explain that healthy and nutritious food can most certainly tick all the boxes when you’re feeling in need of a pick me up. Continue reading

No-bake banoffee pie

Whoever first thought to combine bananas and toffee to come up with banoffee pie is a genius, and I hope they received at least a Knighthood for their services to dessert (and maybe even a Nobel prize as well). I never actually used to like banoffee pie because of my sheer hatred (and fear) of bananas, but as a recovered banana-phobe, I’m definitely making up for lost time. Continue reading

Hot cross cupcakes

Easter is a fabulous time when it comes to delicious desserts and sweet treats, and whilst the majority are either chocolate-based and/or egg-shaped, there’s just something so delicious about hot cross buns. I don’t know if it’s because they feel so ‘traditional’ and have been around for so long, but there’s just something so comforting about them. Continue reading

Raw chocolate Easter eggs with my three favourite fillings

Creme Eggs are so last year. In fact I’ve never liked them  (too sweet and sickly for me) but what I do love is chocolates with fillings. I used to always pick the Strawberry Cremes out of the Roses tin and the Galaxy Truffles out of the celebrations box, and don’t even get me started on how much I love peanut butter cups. Yum. So with these three favourites in mind, I’ve given the traditional Creme Egg a little overhaul (and in my opinion my lovely trio are a lot tastier too). Continue reading

Chocolate Easter nests with marzipan eggs

I used to love making Easter nests when I was little – my mum would melt the chocolate and then I’d get to stir in the Rice Krispies and spoon the mixture mostly into cake cases, but also some into my mouth. Some things never change – I still love making them, and I still manage to eat a fair amount of the mixture in the process. But these days I call it taste testing, so that makes it ok. Right? Raspberry bounty bars

You can get coconut everything these days – coconut oil, coconut flour, coconut milk, coconut sugar, coconut jam, coconut butter – basically just put the word coconut in front of any kitchen staple and it probably exists somewhere in the world. When I was little, I’m sure the only coconut-based food available to buy was a Bounty bar.
