Pimp up your porridge – spiced apple

Porridge is just the perfect breakfast – it’s so easy and quick to make, great if you’re on a budget, AND it’s super filling and so delicious. I’m totally obsessed with it at the moment – it’s so comforting and nourishing, and a real energy booster.

Some people think of porridge as a bit bland or boring, or that you should only eat it in winter. But a warming breakfast is good for you all year round, and in summer it tastes so good with seasonal fruits like berries and peaches. Continue reading

Health Coaching

Hey you!

In the world that we live in, it’s so hard not to be overwhelmed with stress or find yourself falling off the wagon when you’ve promised yourself for the millionth time you’ll be healthy. You might also be feeling sluggish, lethargic, bloated, overweight, or just not your best self – don’t worry, you’re not the only one. So many people have a list as long as their arm of health complaints that could be solved very easily if only they knew how.

You might be one of those people who has tried every fad diet under the sun. We’re guilty of a few too! But after suffering from numerous conditions including IBS, fatigue, mood swings and more, we ditched the diets (and the medication we’d been offered by our doctors) and overhauled our eating regimes, as well as making some serious lifestyle changes. And by gosh did miracles happen – clear skin, shiny hair, soaring energy levels, we could go on and on, but it might look like we’re showing off. We promise we’re not!

But you know what else? Ultimate health isn’t just about what you eat. Sounds a bit odd right? But it’s true. Your job, family, relationships, finances…every single part of your life impacts how you feel, so if there’s instability in one of these areas you can bet your bottom dollar your health will be feeling the pressure too.

We can help…

Our bespoke health coaching programme has been designed to empower you with the tools you need to get you to ultimate health and wellness, and to make sure that you are living your best life. We delve deeper than just food diaries and fad diets, as we believe that there are so many other factors in play aside from what you eat that define your overall health.

What you’ll get out of it;

  • Together we will set goals and help decipher why you might not be feeling your best
  • We won’t just talk about what you do or don’t eat. You can talk to us about whatever or whoever is on your mind or causing unrest in your life – the more you open up to us the more we can help you delve deeper into what might be subconsciously affecting your health
  • We will advise small changes you can make (both dietary and otherwise) to improve your health and wellness and review these at subsequent sessions
  • If you’re looking to lose weight or simply for some enlightenment on what and how to eat, we can advise you on over 100 different popular diets to find one that fits in with your lifestyle and is tailored to your personal needs
  • We’re here for you in-between sessions, if you need us, just drop us an email or send us a text!

So whether you’re looking to lose weight, improve your health or simply feel better, we would love to help you. It’s so easy to sign up for your free health consultation! Just pop Emma (Mrs H) an email at  dowerandhollingsworth@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you to set up a Skype date (or if you’re in London you’re welcome to come over and do it in person – we’ll even throw in a cup of tea).

There’s no obligation to sign up to our full programme and we won’t bore you with a sales pitch, but if you’d like to continue your journey to optimal health with us we’d be so honoured to help you. Our packages start at £250 for five 50 minute sessions or £450 for ten sessions. If you’d like more information on what’s included in our packages or have any other questions please drop us an email, we’d love to hear from you!

Strawberries and cream fudge bites

Valentine’s day is fast approaching again and whilst I’m not a fan of going out to dinner to a restaurant full of couples where the food is overpriced and menus often ‘set’ (read: limited), it is nice to celebrate love once in a while.

It’s not often we get the chance to tell our loved ones just how grateful we are for them putting up with us, and I’m not just talking about other halves here – friends and family deserve some Valentine’s day gratitude too I think. So whilst I don’t really agree with the commercialisation of February 14th (you’ll find me and Mr H at home, probably on the sofa eating a takeaway) I like the fact that it gives us that little nudge that perhaps we all need from time to time to tell our nearest and dearest (and ourselves!) just how amazingly awesome they are. No-bake five ingredient red velvet brownie bites

These are possibly the most delicious thing I have ever tasted and what’s more, you don’t even need a) an oven and b) a food processor to get involved. AND they only require five ingredients and take just a couple of minutes to make. Mind-blowing stuff huh? Continue reading

Peanut butter & jam pancakes

I can’t even begin to explain how much I love peanut butter – it’s honestly my favourite food ever. So when I found out about peanut flour (which has much less fat than peanut butter but tastes equally as yummy) I was dying to create something delicious with it.

Given that it’s almost pancake day (not that we need an excuse to have pancakes, they’re a bit of a weekend special in our house these days) what could be more perfect than peanut butter pancakes? I’m drooling just thinking about them.  Continue reading

Nine ingredient iced carrot cake

Carrot cake is one of my all time favourite cakes, it always has been. I’m a massive chocoholic, but ever since I was little I could never resist a slice of moist, rich, spiced carrot cake with that delicious cream cheese frosting.

It’s such a random idea for a dessert though isn’t it? I mean I know these days there are sweet potato brownies or  chocolate cakes that count beetroot or courgette among their ingredients, but vegetables hiding in baked goods seems to be a pretty new phenomenon, except for our beloved carrot cake. Not only bloody delicious, but so ahead of its time. And who thought up the idea of cream cheese frosting? Whoever it was, I salute them. Or I used to salute them, these days I’d probably ask them if they’d considered giving up dairy and point them in the direction of my blog. Continue reading

Super simple raw chocolate covered strawberries

Everything tastes better coated in chocolate – fact. Especially strawberries. These raw chocolate covered strawberries are such a fabulous little dish to serve your dinner party guests over an after dinner coffee (or fresh mint tea in my case) and they look really impressive too, but they won’t take you more than five minutes to prepare! Detoxifying green smoothie

January. The month after the most fun month of the year. Many of us are feeling like perhaps we overdid it a little during the festive season, and I’m not just talking about food (and alcohol). Money seems to weirdly disappear into some crazy Christmas vortex between 24th December and 1st January, and we end up wondering where it all went. In my case Christmas sales are often to blame, for Mr H his patronage of many a London pub sees to it that we are both equally broke come the beginning of January. Continue reading

Easy peasy ‘cheesy’ pasta bake

Pasta bake used to be one of those dishes I’d make if I fancied something warming, comforting and indulgent for dinner. And while I’d always enjoy it while eating it, I’d also always feel bloated, lethargic and a bit gross after eating it. But luckily for me (and now you too) it’s totally possible to have all of the yum with none of the stodge.

You had me at shalom – Israeli inspired roasted aubergine with tahini

Whenever I go and visit my cousins in Israel, I end up on the aubergine diet. I just can’t help it – though I may flirt with hummus, falafel, israeli salad and shakshouka, if I see a menu and there’s an aubergine on it, it’s all I can think about ordering. I never seem to tire of it; the combination of fresh coriander, creamy tahini and aubergine charred on the outside and soft and fleshy on the inside is just beyond heavenly. Continue reading
