Raw chocolate Easter eggs with my three favourite fillings

Creme Eggs are so last year. In fact I’ve never liked them  (too sweet and sickly for me) but what I do love is chocolates with fillings. I used to always pick the Strawberry Cremes out of the Roses tin and the Galaxy Truffles out of the celebrations box, and don’t even get me started on how much I love peanut butter cups. Yum. So with these three favourites in mind, I’ve given the traditional Creme Egg a little overhaul (and in my opinion my lovely trio are a lot tastier too). Continue reading

Chocolate Easter nests with marzipan eggs

I used to love making Easter nests when I was little – my mum would melt the chocolate and then I’d get to stir in the Rice Krispies and spoon the mixture mostly into cake cases, but also some into my mouth. Some things never change – I still love making them, and I still manage to eat a fair amount of the mixture in the process. But these days I call it taste testing, so that makes it ok. Right? Raspberry bounty bars

You can get coconut everything these days – coconut oil, coconut flour, coconut milk, coconut sugar, coconut jam, coconut butter – basically just put the word coconut in front of any kitchen staple and it probably exists somewhere in the world. When I was little, I’m sure the only coconut-based food available to buy was a Bounty bar.

Strawberries and cream fudge bites

Valentine’s day is fast approaching again and whilst I’m not a fan of going out to dinner to a restaurant full of couples where the food is overpriced and menus often ‘set’ (read: limited), it is nice to celebrate love once in a while.

It’s not often we get the chance to tell our loved ones just how grateful we are for them putting up with us, and I’m not just talking about other halves here – friends and family deserve some Valentine’s day gratitude too I think. So whilst I don’t really agree with the commercialisation of February 14th (you’ll find me and Mr H at home, probably on the sofa eating a takeaway) I like the fact that it gives us that little nudge that perhaps we all need from time to time to tell our nearest and dearest (and ourselves!) just how amazingly awesome they are. Super simple raw chocolate covered strawberries

Everything tastes better coated in chocolate – fact. Especially strawberries. These raw chocolate covered strawberries are such a fabulous little dish to serve your dinner party guests over an after dinner coffee (or fresh mint tea in my case) and they look really impressive too, but they won’t take you more than five minutes to prepare! Maca-teasers bites

Maca is amazing. It’s rich in vitamins B, C and E, as well as heaps of minerals, it boosts libido, relieves menstrual issues, increases energy levels, clears your skin, helps your mood, and that’s just the short of it.

You might think that for something to be so good for you it must taste gross, right? Now while we wouldn’t advocate chowing down on spoonfuls of maca powder, it has a lovely malted flavour when added into recipes. Continue reading

Supercharged cacao love bites

These little squares of heaven took a while to perfect, minutes to scoff, and bloody ages to name. You’ll understand when you try them (which, by the way, you must) – they’re like a cross between a truffle and an energy ball, with all the best bits of both. They’re so rich and delicious that you only need a little square to satisfy your chocolate cravings, but they’re packed with all sorts of good things too – cacao nibs and cacao powder are packed with antioxidants, maca is a great energy booster (and also great for fertility) and almond butter is a fantastic source of good fats and protein.  Continue reading
